Assistant / Associate Editor, Nation Books

Full Time | New York, NY

Nation Books, a leading independent publisher of serious nonfiction, is seeking a highly motivated Assistant or Associate Editor with at least three years of publishing experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong literary sensibility and understanding of progressive politics.

Responsibilities include:

Editing acquired manuscripts

Responding to proposals

Corresponding with authors and agents

Working closely with production, publicity, and marketing departments

Managing the monthly Nation Books newsletter

Writing catalog and jacket copy and preparing fact sheets

Administrative duties as required

The Assistant / Associate Editor will be strongly encouraged to cultivate new writers and acquire for the imprint. This is a position with room for growth.

Required Skills:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Flexibility, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail

Strong computer skills

Social media literacy a must
